Popular Intakes in Canada

Intakes are open for applicants for admission to universities in Canada at different times during the year (known as Admissions Periods); fall, winter, and summer intakes are the most popular Admissions Periods in Canada. Deadlines for these intakes to study abroad in Canada are listed below:

Fall Intake in Canada

(Primary Intake)

September – December

Winter Intake in Canada

(Secondary Intake)

January – May

Spring Intake in Canada

(Limited Courses)

May – August

Not necessarily all universities offer admissions in all intakes but some offer Rolling Admission, If you are considering applying to a school that offers rolling admission, you can apply for up to six months and find out your admission decision within four or five weeks. Application deadlines for schools with rolling admissions may extend beyond the standard application deadline as early as August 1.

Fall Intake to Study Abroad in Canada

Canada’s fall intake deadline starts in September and extends until December or sometimes even early January. The fall intake, which is commonly referred to as the September intake, is the most competitive, featuring the largest number of seats in nearly all courses, wondering why?

There are many Canadian universities that take students in the fall intake and most students prefer to begin their studies in the fall intake because it gives them 4-5 months head start on their peers who join during the winter intake. Compared with other intakes in Canada, fall intake has greater opportunities for on-campus positions, such as Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), etc., as well as funding (scholarships, financial aid). Also worth mentioning is the weather in Canada during fall.

Winter Intake to Study Abroad in Canada

If you missed the fall deadline, the winter intake is your next best option. There are fewer courses offered during winter intake than during fall intake, but numerous universities invite students to apply for many programs during the winter intake. Winter Intake is also most commonly known as January Intake.
